The band ‘Sugarbeat’ is from Melbourne, Australia consisting of professional and experienced
musicians that have been performing regularly in Australia and internationally for over fifteen
years. Collectively the members of ‘Sugarbeat’ have played and recorded with some of the
world’s greatest musicians including Stevie Wonder, Kate Ceberano, Paul Kelly, Men at Work,
James Morrison, Vince Jones and Jimmy Cobb and many more...
Influences are mainly from Motown and jazz artists... Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Curtis
Mayfield and James Brown as well as Frank Sinatra, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Charlie
Parker and Duke Ellington.
The experience gained playing a wide range of venues, festivals and corporate functions has
given the band excellent performing skills and experience, understanding the requirements
and needs of every client and providing a high standard of entertainment.
‘Sugarbeat’ has a huge repertoire containing classic jazz standard vocal songs ( Frank Sinatra,
Harry Connick jnr., Ella Fitzgerald etc.) bossa novas and classics of the 60’s and 70’s,
including Burt Bacharach, Tom Jones and Marvin Gaye.
The group also cover the classic funk/soul/dance repertoire including: Maceo Parker, Curtis
Mayfield, Kool and The Gang, Prince, Al Green, Sly and The Family Stone, Bob Marley just to
name a few.
‘Sugarbeat’ can cater for all of your musical requirements be it corporate events, weddings,
parties or festivals. We also supply background music during breaks and are open to all
repertoire requests to make your event run smoothly, professionally and in turn make it a
musically enjoyable and memorable experience.

Sugarbeat are a force, a gang... a band dedicated to authoritative funk.
They are disciplined funk brokers, conduits to fundamental groove. You can dance to
them!
Sugarbeat are Rohan Wallis on vocals and trumpet, Chris Pappas on tenor saxophone
and backing vocals, David Rex on alto and baritone saxophone and backing vocals,
Jason Dickie on guitar and backing vocals, Steve Hadley on electric bass and Sam
Bates on drums.
Sugarbeat are blooded with years of live performances and recording as musicians in
their own right.
Sugarbeat are confident purveyors of funk yet honour Maceo Parker & the JB’s, Curtis
Mayfield, The Meters, Tower of Power and Sly and The Family Stone
Days was shaped in Sing Sing Recording Studios under the gaze of distinguished
sound engineer Andy Baldwin. Bass steward Steve Hadley, a phenomenon in music,
was the producer.
Sugarbeat huddled and in three clammy days and sleepless, wired, intense and at
times dangerous nights fashioned Days.
Sugarbeat were honoured, by Lord of Australian jazz, James Morrison providing a
weave of magic flugelhorn on one of the tracks on the record.
Sugarbeat are live at various times at Tony Starr’s Kitten Club, The Belgian Beer Bar,
The Vineyard and Blue Diamond.
Guest accomplices include Jake Mason keyboards; Phil Ceberano rhythm guitar; Leo
Salvo percussion; Kieran Conrau trombone; Katie Thompson backing vocals and James
Morrison flugelhorn.
